The Introduction to the rules of the Diocese of Middlesbrough (Registered Charity No 233748) on Parish Finance Committees says:-
'In accordance with Canon Law parish patrimony belongs to the parish. (Canon 537 requires every parish to have a Finance Committee).
In English Charity Law the parish priest is the agent of the Diocesan Trustee and in administering parish finances and property must abide by their wishes. So the Parish Finance Committee must be seen as a body helping the parish priest to fulfil his obligations to the Trustee rather than in any way being executive manager of parish financial affairs'
