Nativity scene



Christmas 2014

The centre of the decorations in the Church at Christmas time is the Nativity scene which reminds us of how Jesus was born in a stable.

At the start of the Christmas Day Mass the Christmas candle is lit. It is the white candle in the centre, the other candles are the Advent candles which were lit one by one on each of the preceeding four Sundays.

Wednesday 17th December

After a Carol Concert there was a reception and presentation to Mrs McGouran who is stepping down from being a very successfull Headmistress at our Catholic Primary School

The pews were made shorter to allow people returning from receiving Holy Communion to use the newly created aisles next to the walls


Funeral Booklet


18th November

Father Norman Jacobson lost his fight with illness on Friday 7th November and his Funeral took place in St Charles Borromeo Chuch in Hull on Tuesday 18th. The following two photographs show that Church just before the funeral. The next two show his Cremation following the Mass and the last two show the Reception in the Endsleigh Mercy Centre

Saturday 15th November

Freddy Cartagena made his First Communion tonight, encouraged by his son who made his a couple of years previously. Father James presented Freddy with a Rosary to mark the occasion

Saturday 25th October

A Curry night was held to raise money for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society Disaster Fund, after the Saturday night Mass

Saturday 25th October

After the usual raffle, it was announced that the total raised for the SVP Disaster Fund was 280. By the time the Newsletter came out the following week the total had increased to 315 but another donation on the Sunday raised it to 325

Saturday 19th October

Bishop Terrence celebrated Mass on Sunday morning with the people of Northallerton and there was an opportunity to meet him over coffee after the Mass.

Today we celebrate that, on the third day after Christ was crucified, they went to His tomb and found that it was empty and He had risen from the dead.

The Polish Easter Basket

Easter Saturday Blessing of Polish Easter Food Baskets in Thirsk

Each year on Easter Saturday the Polish community gather in the Thirsk Church for the Blessing of their Easter Baskets. The tradition dates back to the 12th century. Initially all food that people ate during Easter was blessed. In modern times they bring a symbolic amount of food to Church to be blessed.

The Palm Sunday Mass starts with the blessing of the Palm Crosses at the back of the Church followed by a procession which reminds us of the procession of Jesus on a Donkey entering Jerusalem on a carpet of Palm Leaves

Today we said goodbye to Father Dermot Nunan who was Parish Priest in Northallerton from 1978 to 1984
