Father Joe Brennan

Father Joe at the First Communion of two young Northallerton parishionersFather Joe Brennan arrived in Northallerton in 1984, having served in, Hull, Whitby, Grangetown and Eston. He left Northallerton on the 11th August 2001 and was replaced by Fr Norman Jacobson. Shortly after retirement, Father Joe moved to live in Whitby and shared a house with Mary, who had been his housekeeper in Northallerton, and her husband Joe Hodgson. Although retired, he kept covering for the absense of priests particularly in St Hilda's Whitby. He celebrated his Diamond Jubilee, yes, 60 years of service, on the 23rd July 2010, which was attended by Bishop Terence, more than 12 Diocesan priests, and parishioners from the parishes where he had served. For the last few months of his life he had moved to a Nursing Home in Whitby where he died aged 93 at 6 a.m. on Saturday 7th March 2015.

Funeral Arrangements

Fr Brennan was received into St Hilda's Church, Whitby at 4 pm on Sunday 22 March and his funeral mass was on Monday 23rd March at 12 noon. He was then be taken back to Ireland where he will be buried in Jordanstown Cemetery, four miles from Enfield where he was born.
